It’s almost been a year!

Reflections, Gratitude, and Excitement for What’s Ahead

As I look back over this past year, I feel filled with gratitude. So many of my dreams have flourished into reality.

MY PRACTICE

I have met the most amazing people who trusted me to be their rehabilitative chiropractor and often life coach. The success stories have blown me away. Recovery to a normal state after years of hip pain (the longest was 20 years!).  Hands that were declared “arthritic” and had no hope feel nimble with treatments every 5 or 6 weeks. Low backs that kept people up at night and prevented a normal active life calmed to a serene homeostasis. Pickleball games restored. Gardens planted and harvested. And a 2 year concussion battle is almost entirely over. How can I be so lucky to have been part of these journeys?

My heart is full.

The addition of shockwave and therapeutic laser and red light therapy to my hands-on treatments has up-ticked the success stories even more. Personally, my foot and hip are very grateful for these new additions!

It fills me up to be part of helping people feel better, move better, and live more fully. Watching patients regain confidence in their movement and celebrate their progress has been a true highlight.

FULFILLING MY TEACHING PASSION

Together with my dear colleague Dr. Jeanette Lomori, DC, I’ve been able to share my passion for blending advanced chiropractic assessment, precise adjusting, and outcome-based rehab strategies. Our hands-on trainings, where we create a space allowing chiropractors to sharpen their skills and bring more to their patients has been deeply rewarding. “Amazing”, “excellent”, “so useful” are a few of the encouraging adjectives our attendees have proclaimed. Followed by “best seminar ever” and “definitely will do it again next year”.

Again, I admit, my heart feels so full.

The next step is get our content online. That journey has proven to be the bigger climb, but it’s exciting to see it steadily coming to fruition.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND LESSONS LEARNED

In my personal journey, retiring from a 24-year teaching career and stepping boldly into this new season has taught me so much. I am so glad to have had a mentor say to me back in 2022 when we found out the campus was closing, “you are a well-sought after free agent. You can do and have anything you set your mind to.” Best advice ever. I’ve learned to trust the process, to lean into creativity, and to embrace the excitement (and sometimes the nerves!) of new experiences.

What excites me most is knowing that this is only the beginning. I feel energized to keep building—serving patients, empowering chiropractors through continuing education, and finding new ways to spread my message of empowerment through movement.

Thank you to the students, patients, and friends for being part of this journey with me. Your support, encouragement, and presence mean more than I can say. I look forward to sharing even more in the year ahead—new opportunities, new lessons, and new celebrations of health and possibility.

With gratitude and excitement,
Dr. Makani Lew, DC, DACRB
